5 Times

Have you ever prayed
Five times a day
Up with the dawn
As if to say
Here I am
Take my hand
Work with me
Tirelessly and slow
Have you ever bent down
Starred at the ground
With your back parallel to the shore
The high noon Sun kissing your toe
Have you ever knelt down
At five o’ clock sharp
Begging for mercy with your head
Your heart
Submitting with third eye floored
Perhaps you have counted patience
With beads or on trees
But did you know the fingers show
A more convenient way to proceed
Through the evening hours
Repeating powers
Of words given to us
Sewed
And right before bed
Your union had wed
One last consolation
With the one you love so.
